Child Library Card FAQs

Why is the Child Card Being Added?

Pasco County Libraries is committed to supporting parents’ and guardians' right and responsibility to guide their child's reading choices, and we encourage active participation in their library use. The new Child Card option allows parents who wish to have more control over their child’s library use to limit borrowing to only the juvenile collection and school-required reading, helping them manage what their child borrows.

How Do I Change My Child’s Library Card to the New Child Card?

Parents and guardians can change their child’s library card by visiting a Pasco County library location. A new registration form will need to be filled out with the selection of the Child Library Card. You can learn about the different library card types on our Library Cards webpage.

Can You Change Your Mind?

Yes, parents and guardians can switch between the Child Card and Full Access Child Card at any time by visiting a library branch. A new card will be issued, and the account will be updated. Parent or guardian ID will be required when making any changes to a child’s library account.

Why Did My Child’s Library Card Expire?

The Pasco County Library System is introducing a new library card option for children ages 0-15 – the Child Library Card. Parents and guardians can choose this option when renewing or signing their child up for a library card. Our records show that either you or a family member is listed as a cardholder in this age range. This card needs to be renewed to stay active and for you to select the right library card for your child.

Can I update my child’s library account over the phone?

No. To verify age and residency, parents or guardians must complete all registration, renewal, and update processes in-person at a Pasco County library location. This cannot be done online or over the phone.

How to Get My Child a Library Card & Renew an Existing Library Card:

To sign your child up for a library card or renew their existing library card, parents and guardians can visit any Pasco County library location with ID and proof of Pasco County residency. Learn about the different library card types on our Library Cards webpage.

I selected the Child Library Card. What Happens if My Child Tries to Borrow Excluded Items?

With the Child Card option, children can only borrow from the juvenile collection and school-required reading as identified by the Pasco School District. If your child tries to borrow items outside of the juvenile collection, the system will not allow the checkout. Parents or guardians can borrow those items on their own card instead.
