Position Overview and Impact:

The Shelf Helper provides easy access to library materials and makes the library a great place to visit. Dedicated, detail oriented people are needed to locate materials, shelve books, arrange books in order on the shelves, plus help the library with a wide variety of tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help find materials that staff and patrons need

  • Shelve library materials

  • Straighten, shift and arrange materials on the shelves, in correct order

  • Work independently

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Must be able to be on their feet for the majority of their shift

  • Must be able to bend, lift, reach, stretch, push a filled cart of books

  • Must be able to read item spine labels

  • Must be able to accurately alphabetize and put items in numerical order

  • Be a self starter, after training

Training and support provided:

  • Orientation, training and mentoring is provided

Time Commitment:

  • One ‘two (2) hour shift’ per week
